LinuxKickoffEventNov2002LinuxLetter

okay, here's a pretty rough draft. critique me, tell me what to add/remove:

(send this thing out from the linux account.....)

Install Fest!

We're having a linux install fest/linux meeting on Nov 21st from 2-6, and we need your help to make the event a great success!

PLANNING

This coming monday (11th), from 1:45-2:45 in the L10 conf room in Technical services (basement of Berry) we're going to have a meeting to plan out the event. (with free pizza).

If you can't come to the monday meeting but still want to help out on the 21st, blitz us so we'll have a rough count of people who are going to be there.

THE INSTALL FEST

We're planning on having free food, free CDs, and a bunch of people on hand to help people install linux and promote Linux/free software in general.

Even if you don't need to install linux because you've already got it running on your desktop, laptop, and toaster, show up and talk with us. We're working on some projects like SidecarForLinux and BlitzForLinux, and we'd like to get you involved (no matter what kind of programming experience you have).

MORE LINUX STUFF

We put up a wiki (online collaborative tool) at http://sa2/twiki/bin/view/

The 'Linux' web is a place to document linux, work on free software projects, etc...

For information about the Install Fest and more, check out the page http://sa2.dartmouth.edu/twiki/bin/view/Linux/WelcomeToTheWiki

so jared thinks that I should just leave this out for now... maybe I could put it in a separate blitz, so that people who are interested in being beta testers could get started

SIDECAR

As promised, the all-new Sidecar For Linux is here. I just got it to compile statically, and it's certainly ready for beta testing.

Look at the SidecarForLinux page on the wiki (http://sa2.dartmouth.edu/twiki/bin/view/Linux/SidecarForLinux)

If you think that the documentation needs work, please, PLEASE write some stuff up yourself. (the great power of having a wiki!) I know that we could use better information about installing and using kerberos, but I've been pretty busy and haven't gotten around to it.

(side note: who is the Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee Linux user's group? it lists mbeards@valleyNOSPAM.net as the webmaster of the site.... should we coordinate with them? is that site mostly defunct? besides... it lists linux-users@dartmouth as the mailing list for them......)
