what's we're doing right now

For now, we're considering deploying some PowerPC? boxes (7300s ?) and maybe some iMacs; we'd probably run Debian on them.

PublicLinuxMachineFeatures -- bare necessities of software, OS, security (physical and system), and appeal

It would also be nice to have some intel hardware running Linux. (but if we have Mac hardware available, let's use what we have :)

How Do I setup one of these machines ?

We have a bunch of different options here.

If we're dealing with just a couple machines, we could manually go and update each system.
It would be nice to have a single disk image (or maybe 2: one for slow machines, one for fast) somewhere so that we could do network installs/upgrades.

Something on the network would work well, and would make it much simpler to update all the machines at once.
