TuxLibraryOfComputerScience

Why?

Dartmouth has no library of computer science, and in my experience has little to no books available dealing with CS, computer systems?, Networking?, computer languages, etc...

The library system has just begun to offer several electronic books through the NetLibrary service, but I have several reservations about that service (see the NetLibrary page for more info).

Starting with some LinuxWorld? magazines and a printout of the GDB manual (I didn't know it was going to be over a hundred pages long.. :P ), we will start collecting books, software, and related materials that will be available for use by the Dartmouth Community for free.

("Related Materials" could include plush Tux figures, pieces of antique or special computing hardware, ...)

In addition to materials "owned" by the library, it would be neat to have some special personal items listed (like a NeXt? box)... these could also have wiki nodes, and could list their owner and relative availabilty (e.g. if the person was amenable to have visitors stop by and look at the item).

Where?

Ummm.... perhaps we'll beg JoeHill to give us some shelf space in his office. It would be neat if we could have actual space in a library somewhere (I'll look into this...).

Library Catalog

Not much right now, but the list is here: TuxLibraryOfComputerScienceCatalog?

The Cook Math Library seems to have CS stuff, IIRC. There's also a lot of stuff in the lower level conference/work/project room in Sudikoff.
