http://www.freshmeat.net -- "freshmeat maintains the Web's largest index of Unix and cross-platform software, themes and related "eye-candy", and Palm OS software"

If you're trying to use free software at Dartmouth, try the FreeSoftwareAlternativesForDartmouthUsers page. It gives free software alternatives to pretty much EVERY piece of software supported by the different departments of DartmouthComputing.
