We know that the whole GreenPrint system has problems, and we'd like have a different system. MIT is considering LPRng? with some home-built clients, and perhaps we could combine efforts with that plan.

Under Linux, we don't have to enter our DND name or password at all (nice feature..... :-), but perhaps we could initially make new GreenPrint GUI clients that used kerberos for public Linux or OSX boxes (just a thought). Then we could [later] move on to the idea of a new backend, etc..

thoughts so far

one idea is to run a 'proxy' machine that would get print jobs from linux boxes and then communicate somehow with the GreenPrint server. We don't know how open the GreenPrint protocol is, and how much reverse engineering would be required. It might actually be easier to just create an alternative to the GreenPrint server/client software.

I'd suggest doing the GUI with Gtk+/Glade (RobinsonTryon)
