Richard Michael Stallman (aka RMS), is the creator of the GNU Project and the father of the Free Software Foundation? (aka FSF).

Free Software, or perhaps more appropriately Software Libre?, has become very important to the Linux community.

RMS is well known for his work on the editor EMACS and the compiler GCC (both pieces of software are a part of the GNU Project? and released under the GPL)
