Well, I know that you can boot linux from a 3.5" floppy and from a cd, but I'm wondering if you could have a CD that you could carry around with these properties:
-  bootable
-  can run X and a windowmanager from the CD (like KDE).
-  as flexible as possible (to be able to run on many different x86 hardware setups)
-  can run just a few basic applications (nice to run more, but let's take baby steps before we run...)
-  some webbrowser (say Mozilla or the new tiny Mozilla..)
-  some email app (NetBlitz will work fine for now)
-  emacs  (hey, when you have a craving to code... you have a craving.. :)
-  openoffice (not necessary, but would be nice)
