Okay here are the instructions

(feel free to modify these/annotate them if you have a different experience or a different model!)

pull all the stuff out of the box. you should have the docking station, and a powercord that connects to a powerwart (that in turn connects to the docking station).

you should also have a pretty shiny grey thing that says "Zaurus", and some manuals and warantee papers.
okay FOLLOW the quick-start guide (might be thin and blue) and the start-up guide (thicker, and black & white).
Where is my battery? I found it tucked in the cardboard tray that held the Zaurus handheld. (seemed to be totally hidden.. :)

I also found two pieces of thin black plastic in a plastic bag (with the docs). They are about the size of the battery compartment (little bit 'wider' than the zaurus). I'll try to figure out what they're for.. Aha! these are support stickers for card ejection (see page5 in the startup guide)

charge for 24 hours (I'll be back tomorrow...)

okay, i've got it up and working with the network. problems going through a proxy for http and ftp access (not sure why -- the same settings are working for my linux workstation, (although on a different subnet).
