OpenOffice

Open Office is an open-source (GPL) office suite that includes a word processor?, spreadsheet program?, paint program?, and presentation tool?.

Open Office is based on code for StarOffice that Sun? released to the open source community?. StarOffice is still being developed as a closed-source project (kind of in parallel to the open source version), and includes a database program (like MS Access?).

How do I get the software?

• Linux -- .rpms and .debs are available for many distros. If the package mirrors you use don't have them, check on the Open Office website.

  • OSX -- Currently (Mar 2003) at a "final beta" stage of development)
