Here are just a few different operating systems:

Free Software/Open-source

• Linux
• BSD (multiple versions)
• Darwin (the BSD core of MacOSX)

ClosedSource?/non-free

• MicrosoftWindows (any version so far)

• MacOS Classic (...,7,8,9)
• MacOSX (but built on top of the open-source Darwin core)

• Solaris? (SunOS?) -- Sun's version of Unix
• AIX? -- IBM's version of Unix
• IRIX -- SGI's version of Unix

Other Operating Systems:

• BeOS

• Minix? -- Torvalds thought that Linux could never be as good....

• Plan9 -- I've just heard about it in passing... :)

• PalmOS? -- OS capable of running on several different types of handhelds.
