WelcomeToTheWiki
Hey! welcome to the wiki.
You're probably reading this page because you're interested in Linux or Free Software.
Here's the basics on
- What is the wiki? / Using the wiki
- the content of the wiki
- a few current events
What is a wiki?
A wiki is an online collaborative tool that allows people to build 'nodes' of information and create links between them using wiki words like
FooBar and
YellowDogLinux. By just typing the words in
CamelCase, the wiki knows to put in automatic links.
This is a silly toy
Awww. It might have a horrible color scheme, but the software is actually pretty cool.
If you think you can write something better, we fully encourage you to give it a shot!
How do I use it?
It's rather easy, but you should read the
WelcomeGuest page. It overlaps somewhat with what we have here, and is a great introduction to becoming a
WikiMaster.
How do I get an account?
Go to
TWikiRegistration and fill in all of the information. Your
WikiName will default to
FirstnameLastname?, but you can change it if you
really want. Remember that:
- you need to have a name that is in proper CamelCase and can be a valid WikiWord.
- don't misrepresent yourself by picking someone else's name, or we will whap you with a big LART.
Once you've registered, you can go take a look at everyone who is registered on the
TWikiUsers page.
UPDATE: For now you need to register, but soon you'll be able to use your DND name and password to log in here !! :-)
The framework of the wiki
Currently this wiki is set up with 5 Webs Main,
TWiki,
Linux,
Know, and
Test.
- the Main web is where your personal page resides,
- the TWiki web has user registration, FAQs, user guides, etc..
- the Linux web is where all of our documentation about Linux and Free Software resides
- the Know web we aren't really using. It might be removed in the future.
- the Test web is a place for you to do pretty much anything; it's a playground for you to test new stuff and pages. Just remember that everyone has carte blanche there.. :)
The wiki is currently being hosted on sa.dartmouth.edu (the webserver for the
Student Assembly), and the site admins are:
RobinsonTryon,
SamReisner,
JosephHill, and
JaredAlessandroni.
The
WebHome pages and the wikiRegistration pages are restricted to access by the Admins, and people have the option of retaining complete control over their personal page. Other than that, every page should be readable/editable by anyone who creates an account.
The content of the wiki
The focus of the wiki is on the Linux web, which is home to all of our documentation, projects, rants about software, etc..
For more information about the Linux web, visit the Linux.
WebHome page.
