DoscChat
Chatting up a storm...
Are you Jabberized?
The
DOSC is working on a
Jabber server so that people can chat with each other on campus. The really neat thing about the software is that we're modifying it so that you can use your
DND name and password.
Jared Alessandroni is leading that project, and we expect to have the server running within the next two weeks (hopefully sooner than later. Check out the status of the effort at
LDAP Jabber Project.
What about IRC?
IRC is an useful protocol, but we decided that Jabber was much more suited to our needs at Dartmouth. Remember -- we're working on this project not just for Linux people, but for the whole Dartmouth Community. And besides, we have a feeling that Jabber is going to become really useful in the future at Dartmouth. <cryptic smile>
If you're really interested in running
IRC, that's cool with us. If you need a server on which to run it, talk to us and we can probably work something out.
